Viruses and Trojans eating your brain??

what will you commonly do when your PC gets infected. scan with norton antivirus??its ok if you can update nav twice a week and its ok if the PC slow downs and long booting time doesn't matters to you.but it matters to me.. i cant go for weekly updation and i wont tolerate long booting time ..i wont..
